Lewis and Clark Expedition, Phase 1

Lewis's Preparations

Our journey to the new Western frontier begins with  Meriwether Lewis’s preparations in Pennsylvania for the enlistment of men, supplies and boats for the float down the Ohio River to a rendezvous with William Clark (co-commander) at the Falls of the Ohio at Louisville, Kentucky.  President Jefferson’s purchase of the Louisiana Territory is complete; frontier folks are at the Mississippi looking to settle the relatively unknown regions poked only by trappers, adventurers and lost persons.

I myself just completed a 4,000+ mile car journey roughly tracing the first half of the Lewis and Clark Expedition after President Jefferson's purchase of the Louisiana Territory from France.  (HDD, 25 minutes)
